As you get ready to toe the line for the Ironman World Championships, you know the value of being prepared, the right gear, nutrition and hydration. But what if those key items were not available to you, can you imagine going into a race feeling unprepared the moment you start? Our kids do. The Big Island is the host of one of the largest populations of homeless per capita in the US with very little established programs catered toward the youth. Kona Kids (KonaKids.org) was created by professional athlete and base ambassadorCarrieMcCoy to change this. We work with the kids living in the low income and transitional housing on the island to provide after school programs to empower the youth. Our kids are in great need of school supplies so they can be prepared for their "race" every day they step into the classroom. We need your help to make a footprint on their journey.
Base is teaming up with Kona Kids to collect school supplies to distribute at the low-income housing in Kona. As you pack your bags for Hawaii please add in a couple of these items and drop them off at the Base Performance tent at the World Championship expo Tuesday-Friday:
16gb flash drives
3 ring 1 inch binders
This is our opportunity to make a difference and to leave a footprint on the island. Mahalo from all of us for heart and energy, we wish you the best of luck!
