03.25.2013 – BEND, OR - BASE Performance professional triathlete Chris Lieto and professional cyclist Jasper Stuyven started the season off with impressive wins this past weekend. Chris tackled the Lavaman Waikoloa Olympic distance race on the Big Island on Sunday taking the overall win with a 1:53:55. Chris exited the water in 3rd position and proceeded to open up his lead in typical fashion with a blistering 26.3 mph 56:39 40K bike split. He followed up with a 36:03 10K run, winning comfortably by 2 minutes. “It felt good to be out there racing and back to running form. I’m happy with how the day went and stoked to continue to support the Island which has become my home,” said Chris. The race could have been a battle amongst BASE Performance athletes as James Cotter exited the water first, but had bike tech issues causing him to drop back. He ran himself into 6th position with an impressive second fastest run split of 33:59. In cycling, Jasper Stuyven and the BASE Performance sponsored Bontrager Cycling Team opened the season in an impressive fashion by taking the GC at the Volta ao Alentejo in Portugal. Jasper also collected the points jersey. About BASE Performance: BASE Performance provides premiere nutritional supplements for endurance athletes.
