Matthew Cusack

After needing a break from rock and ice climbing I dipped into triathlons. In the summer of 2008, I embarked on my first season in triathlons having to teach myself each of the three sports to get to the starting line. Along the way, I have been given many hurdles such as others meet but it wasn’t until 2 wks prior to my first big race, Boise 70.3 that my major hurdle popped up. At the time, I was told this and that, it took over 2 years as well as many misdiagnosis to find out my gallbladder was standing in my way of racing/training anywhere near my potential. In hindsight, over coming this hurdle has made me the man I am today and has showed everyone I am in it for the long haul and no matter the outcome I will be out there tomorrow trying my hardest. In April of 2010, my gallbladder was removed and since then my coach and I have been getting be back in the game, working on seeing what these legs are made of. This season, I have quickly started to see my potential, my 30 minute PR at a Half Ironman was proof to both of us I had a lot of untapped potential.
