Gary Tomlinson

I am a 40 yr old Key Account Manager for a Manufacturing Company and I live in College Station, TX. On September 15, 2007 I looked at myself in the mirror and didn’t feel special. I was over weight (6'2" 280 lbs) and leading an unhealthy lifestyle. More importantly I was setting a bad example for my loved ones. I started off going my journey to a healthier life by lifting weights and changing my diet to pay attention to what I was putting in my body. After a year or so I had lost nearly 75 lbs, when a friend of mine asked me to run a 1/2 Marathon with him. I figured why not, but what I soon discovered was that while I was eating better there was something missing in my diet. I tried a bunch of different supplements for the next year or so while I started running Half Marathons and even the Full Houston Marathon. My results were ok but not really what I wanted to achieve in the end. I entered into a new training program in July of 2010 and at that time saw an ad for Base. Being not the youngest guy in the world, I really started to focus of what I put in my body and how it affects my body. The quality of the Base products and what Base stands fits with what I want and where I want to go. Today, I am a triathlete aspiring to be an Ironman. My source for inspiration is Team Tomlinson. This unique team starts with my lovely wife of nearly 10 years, Jill and my two incredible girls, Kayla (8) and Grace (5).

Race Schedule 2011

  • Dansby Duo (April 30)
  • Cap Tex Tri Olympic (May 30)
  • Ironman Lake Stevens 70.3 (August 14)
  • Ironman Austin 70.3 (October 23)

My training is 6 days a week (3 swims, 3 runs and 3 rides a week) and I also try to find time to do some strength training in there as well.

Fortunately or unfortunately I seem to be in the most competitive age group out there for Triathlon, and while I will never be the fastest guy on the race course I do hope to someday qualify for my age group to race in Kona or even the 70.3 World Championships. I am competitive with myself and with others my age so pushing hard is a common theme for me and I am sure that it will pay off in the future. Moving from just running races to Triathlon has been an adventure but I love it and look forward to the races.
